Stripe, Wise and Payoneer in Uruguay: recording income and taxes

The payment platform does not determine the tax. Keep invoice value, gross revenue, fees, exchange rates and transfers as separate records.

Back to blog

Stripe, Wise and Payoneer are payment rails. They do not by themselves turn Uruguayan work into foreign-source work or make a service a VAT export.

Separate the sale from the payment flow

If you invoice 1,000 and a platform deducts a 30 fee, a 970 bank receipt does not by itself mean the sale was 970. Preserve gross invoice value, fee and net settlement separately.

Where the money sits is not where the work happened

For personal services, DGI looks at where the activity is performed. Keeping proceeds temporarily in a foreign platform does not by itself change that analysis.

Useful records

  • CFE and currency.
  • Gross sale amount.
  • Payment date and amount.
  • Platform fee.
  • Tax-record exchange rate.
  • Later account-to-account transfers separately.
  • Refunds and chargebacks linked to the original transaction.
